Sorry for so few pictures, didn't really think about it, forgot or couldn't at some points.
Rather than have another Thanksgiving Staycation, I decided to travel. I was looking for a place where I could do something or sit on a beach. I found this place in the Dominican Republic, Recent reviews weren't horrible, and they had an All-Inclusive option. So why not.
The flight was ATL to JFK to Santiago since that's the only way Delta could get me here.
Took 90 minutes from the airport to the resort. After am Americano breakfast Sunday morning, I met with the Wilson, who seems to be the local trip guy. So I booked some things for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then I went to Sousa beach for the rest of the day, BTW, everyone wants cash, I should have been better prepared, but I have a bank card that has no Foreign Transaction fees, and that was a good thing.
Dinner was good at the resort. Power went out at 5AM and was back up by 6:30 AM. I figured it had to do with all the rain we had Sunday night. I knew there was an issue because the room was getting a little humid and the CPAP was not right.
Monday morning started with a backwoods tour of the area around the resort in a Dune Buggy. Saw where Wilson starts his river trips, and was wondering how many more ventures he has. The roads were filled with huge puddle and mud. You could see wjhere the river had gone over its banks. Also saw how, like St. Thomas, if you stay only on the tourist areas you don't see how the others live. Got to tase some cocoa pod off the tree, and some tart fruit the guide called apple.
We went to a beach are next and it was pretty bad, it is where the Caribbean meets the reiver and the amount of rubbish and sticks made it pretty bad so we went to Wilson's restaurant across the river.
Took a little boat, if you have watched any shows on Discovery/etc. that show the local on a river boat, you know what it looks like.
Wilson had called ahead an ordered me a seafood combo that was WAY too much food, and delicious. I don't get coconut water, but what the heck. There was a fill crusted and fried fish, some langstino and a small lobster tail. And red beans and rice, and plantains prepared 2 ways and a small salad. I ate as much as I could (thankful I had no breakfast) and was done.
Took the boat back to the dune buggy and then back to the resort.
Spent the rest of the afternoon in the sun at the pool, finishing a book and listening to a podcast. I was not hungry for dinner.
TV is useless, and I did try to watch some shows on my iPad, but like in Europe, not in my zone.
Power went out again at 8PM, and was back by 9. And now it is time for bed as I leave on an Island Tiur and Waterfall tour at 8:30 AM tomorrow.
